1991 kx 125 water pump question
« on: November 22, 2011, 01:02:00 PM »
So we are having abit of trouble with my bike. Its a 1991 Kawasaki kx 125, and when we bought it, we took it down to replace some parts in the clutch case, and we noticed it didn't have a water pump gear. So we bought one off eBay (dads idea) and we got it today. Well I tried to install it, and it doesn't fit, as it is to big. I was told it was a 1991 gear. It has 23 teeth and has holes cut in the inside. (weight reduction i assume) Does anyone know how many teeth a 1991 kx 125 water pump gear should have? Im thinking it should have 21 teeth due to some fancy math, but i havent seen a 21 tooth gear anywhere...

Thanks guys

23T
If it is a US bike the 10th character of your VIN should be "M"
Engine ID should begin as follows: KX125HE
If they are something else, let me know.
1986 KX125 36T
1987 KX125 36T
1988 KX125 24T
1991 KX125 23T
1992 KX125 19T
1993 KX125 19T

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Hm... well the VIN number matches but where is the Enigine number? I cant seem to find it. Maybe the enigine is a 92? Would that make a difference? I mean id think it would still fit in the crankcase atleast...

Unfortunately, those diagrams are not always geometrically correct.
Here is a picture showing the location of the engine ID

So I found out from the guy i bought it from that the bike is a 1991 but the motor is a 1992. So we bought a 1992 water pump gear with 19T, and it fits and everything, But it makes a loud clanky noise. It doesnt sound right. The teeth mesh fine, but it just sounds funny. Any ideas?

Sorry for the long wait, wrecked my car and the bike has been less of a priority. Thanks
