More clutch woes

I bought my bike about 6 mos ago. Supposedly with a new clutch. I never really seem to have any issue with the clutch until the other day. But it was odd what I found. There was absolutely no slack in my cable. The clutch starts engaing from the very moment you start to pull on the lever and all adjustments are screwed all the way to achieve the least amount of slack as possible. I'm thinking the wrong cable is on there. Sound wrong to you guys?

Aside from that, what brought me to notice it was, I was riding and the bike sounded great screaming through the field but it was not pulling for s**t! I run atf type F in it and when I changed it, it looked horrible. Now I think my fibers maybe glazed over too. Can I get by with slightly sanding the plates with some fine grit sandpaper? There looks to be indicator dots on the plates too, do they face in or out when reinstalling them? Thanks guys!

No slack in the cable is due to the clutch plates are beyond service limits. When I purchased my 01 K5 the clutch was so worn the previous owner had to remove the adjuster on the clutch perch to have the clutch engage (& I thought he was too cheap to buy one) but soon found the real cause after purchasing a new perch and cable.

Hey guys just on the topic of clutches i am having a problem with mine.
The bike has been sitting up for a while, i got her firing the other day anyway.
My problem now is the clutch is not engaging at all, when I wanted to move the bike when in gear, I pulled the clutch put the rear wheel is still locked/dragging. I then started the bike and tried to take off but as soon as i kick into gear, the bike cuts out.
I have changed the clutch cable as the old cable snapped. Their is a little slack(10-15mm) on the lever before the cable has tension like before. Changed oil also.
The clutch was never a problem before the bike was out of action, just frustrating as i want to get riding and break in this new piston

too much play at the lever. free play should be around 3 - 5mm andy.

if its been layed up prob plates stuck together ,try without running in gear roll back n forth (clutch not engaged ) might free it ,poss change oil worst case take of side and manualy disengadge i agree with kwakman , i always run 3mm or 1/8 in old money ,try and take the slack on the cable then on the lever adjustment (if that makes sence) dont want the lever adj out too much they tend to snap when you come off sometimes

Cheers Kwak, I adjusted it to around 5mm, same thing happening.

I have tried rolling it back and forth loads of times, in gear out of gear, clutch engaged clutch disengaged. Like you said, i might just take off the the cover and have a look. Time for Mr.Clymer so

Took the cover off and had a quick look, everything seemed fine. I wasnt really bothered going further, like removing plates, so i put cover back on.
I then got my bro to push me and kick it into gear, after a bit of popping the clutch when giving her throttle, it started biting better and began engaging when i fully pulled in the clutch. It got dark then and had to stop riding.
It must have just got stuck or something, its defintely free'd up
