electrofusion bore/top end rebuild '97 kx250
« on: March 05, 2010, 02:53:00 PM »
Hello everyone,
I'm new...(I guess we all start that way, lol).  I'm doing my first top-end rebuild ever on a 2-stroke.  My bike is a '97 KX250.  I did some searches on the subject of Electrofusion Bores and have come up with several strong opinions on how to prepare this type of cylinder.  I'm installing a new Wiseco piston and ring kit.  The cylinder is within the service limits and has no visible damage, in my opinion normal wear.

The purpose for the rebuild is motor seizure.  I'm a recreational rider, and not very fast.  However, I do ride this bike once a week.  Don't all laugh at once, as I know I should be faster with once a week practice, lol.  It would be great to get some input here.  I do have the Clymers manual, which pretty much says do nothing, but I still would like some knowlegable opinions on this topic.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

if the bore is in speck  on the size  and the plating is not flaking then clean and oil is all you should do to the cylinder...
