99-02 kx250 questions
« on: July 14, 2009, 01:38:06 AM »
Hi Everyone! Im Nat from Ontario Canada, this is my first post lol, I had a few questions and I thought there's no better place then here to ask.

I was planning on building a 99-02 kx250 from the ground up. (i.e buying  a frame, swing arm, subframe, tree, motor e.t.c)

my question is exactly how much do you think it will cost me? I don't have 3 grand to buy a bike right now and there are no good deals right now lol, and if i was to buy a 99-02 frame, what other year parts can I use, or use with slight modification? Also since you guys seem to know what was good and what was bad on certain years, because this is being done from scratch, what would you guys particularly try and source? thanks alot everyone!

I'd try craigslist.  I got my 99 kx250 with a blown motor off there for $600.

I bought my 2002 KX250 off craig's list for $1950 and that was almost 2 years ago; it still had the original front and rear tires on it; and was near showroom condition. If you have $3000 to spend don't waist money on a seized or clapped out bike; you can find all sorts of good running 2-strokes for under $3000.

Hi there,

I would also buy a complete bike that has a ruined engine or will not run.
Trying to build a bike from the ground up will be a lot of hassle and there will always be a few parts that you will need from Kawasaki and the cost.

I am in the middle of rebuilding an 87 KX 250 and the seller gave me a box of spares.

Re-building does take time and you just about break even if you are good with spanners.

The satisfaction is priceless however.

The other benfit of rebuilding is that any 2 stroke will need constant maintenance, so at least with rebuilding you know everything is right.
