Fun as all hell, but don't do it! (photo5)
« on: January 19, 2009, 11:35:22 AM »
I went to do the "Coke Ovens" run near Florence AZ (really fun run, about 20 miles round trip- photos 1 & 2). I guess they were used in the early 1900's to produce a clean burning fuel they called coke. The're really in good shape.

I met some others riders who invited me to follow them on their "loop". Along with the cool trail we crossed the river twice (photo 3). - Crossed a train bridge (photo 4).

And then the reason for my post. We came to a train tunnel that curves through the mountain, and they explained to me that it gets pitch black inside and you can't see.

"But no worries, just put your left foot on the rail and use it as your guide." :?

It was a simple thing, but what a rush riding in total darkness, with only your foot on a curving rail to guide you! It was the coolest sensation having to ride by "feeling" your bike suspension and foot in total darkness!

I found out afterwards that the rail is still active and there's a $1800 fine for riding through. :-o So, needless to say I won't be doing that again. It was fun as hell, but don't do it!

Hope you enjoy the photos!
