cr500 pipe fit question,kx 500/250 frame.
« on: March 10, 2008, 07:59:55 AM »
first off Im a newbie, but Ive been lurking around this site for years..freeking tons of good info, however I do have one question.

I finally stuffed my old 91 kx500 into a 2002 250 frame and Im wondering about the cr5oo pipe. I know that I need too weld on the kx 500 exhaust flange but what I was wondering is what do I do about the scilencer?

the kx 250 one would be a smaller I.D. wouldnt it?

does the cr 500 one fit?

Id like to see what other people have done.

I used the CR500 silencer and built tabs to accomodate it.

my other option is shearer custom pipes, in hisperia,ca. not really too far from me. I called over there and was told it would be around 400 bucks for the pipe and scilencer. but then Id have to take my bike to them.

A buddy called Service Honda to buy one, they wouldn't sell him one. Offered to sell him a CR pipe and he could make his own.

Have you gotten the fitment situation resolved? I bought one and had to mod it quite a bit to get it to fit, it was still easier than making a KX pipe fit.

I tried to make the fmf gnarly kx500 pipe fit,,,well I shouldnt say tried. I made it fit but all I had to work with was a sawsall and oxy acetiline rig..and Im kinda a hack. so thats why im asking.  my resulting pipe was enoughf to let me rip around the block and kinda see what the bike is gonna feel like, however it looks like somthing I pulled outta fidos ass. thanx for all the replys.

The operator at the moment had to be confused, sorry for that !
if anyone calls,
ask for someone who knows that the KX pipes are for sale.

please don't take this wrong, ,but that's an odd statement ?..
;)

As  mentioned up thread.. (or perhaps another thread)

The Service Kawasaki FMF KX500AF pipe and silencers,
are made specifically to fit my KX500AF bikes.
They fit great and perform very well.

(granted , our engne placement/rad placement rad hose routing etc etc ,,maybe quite different than someone elses)

i am willing to sell someone building ther own  conversion a pipe,
but they are told when i sell it that on thier own  conversion
,that i of course cannot gurantee fitment,.
nor would i want to resolve that fitment ?
it wouldnt fit my bikes then? !! ;)

Glad you got it to work for you.

If some one is building their own KX500 AF the best thing you could do is buy a pipe from AJ first and build the bike to fit the pipe.

If you are going to build your own pipe all you need is time. I used a FMF Fatty and a Late mod CR500 silencer (Pro Circuit). After you cut few welds and twist a little you will be surprised how little material has to be finessed. Did I say time? If you are not real good you might need 3 or 4 FMF Fatties. Take a look.

Dutchie.....Yes I could have built it out of anything. I liked the way the Procircuit silencer looked and since the cr500 had the right pipe configuration I didn't have to modify it much, only the mounting brackets. I used the FMF Fatty because it came with the kx500 donor. Cheap right....not counting 6 hours of labor! :-D
