Crazy Question
« on: July 30, 2008, 05:00:08 AM »
Is it possible or a good idea to change fork springs on an 01 500 without changing the fork oil?  I need to swap out spring, but the forks were serviced 4 weeks ago with no ride time.  Bushings, seals, and oil at that time.  Looking at the manual I thought this might be possible?

You will end up taking a lot of oil along with those springs so you would need to top off to correct level.

Change oil. You will spend less than $10 for peace of mind.

I have done it with no issues.  You just need to make sure that as much oil as possible has dripped off the springs.  Usually this is only a few CC'c. While the springs are out you might want to verify the oil level. Cam.

tip!

let it drip in a clear bottle with cc markers ,like the ones in yall kitchens .
then verify and level both contents before pooring it back in

my 2 cents
