ballpark jetting for 05 kx 250
« on: May 26, 2008, 06:22:14 AM »
this bike ran ok in bakersfield but I went to pismo this weekend and it ran like total crap

like a dumby I didnt even check what jets where in the carb when i installed the engine and it
would cut out at about 3/4 to full trottle so I knew it was the main well i check and it had a 160 in there with it being 60 degrees at sea level with a pipe, r04 silenceer, uni, and v-force so i figured id be safe assuming its running lean on the main

it has a 160 main in it 45 pilot which also is probably too lean air screw was 1 3/4 to 2 turns out I changed that to 1 1/2 already but what would be a good starting point for 0-350 ft 60-80 temps with those mods?

As a suggestion, cutting out at that throttle could also be the power valve not opening (plugged?). Cam.

kayx,
I don't think many on here have newer KX250's.  The carb has a TPS (throttle position sensor) and a power valve.  The power valve threads out and the orifice is visible on the end of it (I think).  I should be obviously clean as well as the receptacle it came out of.  There is also a posibility that your TPS is not working as it signals to the engine computer when the throttle is wide open and then to open the power valve.  You can check the obvious electrical connectors (open, clean and reassemble) but past that you might need to find a tech manual to go further.  I can't take you much further than this as the only one I have access to is my neigbours 2001.  Hope this helps. Cam.

PS.  He has the factory manual. I will borrow and see what it says for TPS diagnosis
