New kick starters
« on: January 30, 2005, 09:13:52 AM »
Hey Guy's,

My kick starter just broke this afternoon. It broke right at the pivot point. I tought I had the new updated unit. I just bought it about 7 months ago. How can I tell if the unit I have is the new updated kicker :?: Does anbody have any pictures of their new kicker :?: Does the new kicker look like to one found on new kx250 or 500 :?:  Does the part number supersceed to the new updated kicker or do I need to ask for it :?: I guess there's no warranty on an item like this.

All I know is that the kicker on my 04' KX500
looks just like the one on an old 89' KX250 that I had.

O, And I broke too......

My kick starter looks very different than yours. I zoomed in on the side shot of your bike. I wonder when they changed design. I looked at bike bandit and the one for a 04 kx500 is 95.00. Look at my photo gallery I have a close up side shot of my engine where you can see my kick starter. After loking at all the bikes in the gallery I do have a different kicker and I guess it is the old style.

The one in your picture is the old version, or that is jsut what they make for the '87, I'm unsure, but it is not the new style and thickness.

Yes, I have. But, I did not snap it, I just warped it by jumping on it and not lubricating it. It still works fine, just over rotates. It's a huge difference against the old one, there is a pic of it here, I'll find it.

I used to have to replace my kicker about every 8 months, primarily because I ride/race sooooo much.  However, with the new updated kicker that came on my 2002, I have yet to have to purchase a replacement.

I looked up the part number on bikebanit.com for a 2004 kx500 kick starter. My question is that going to be the new updated unit. :?:

hello, can they, the new type lever, be found anywhere cheaper then $95.00 in bike bandit.? and if i am to use bike bandit is it true to order the 2002 or above to get the beefier lever.? thanks guys, jdv
ps: getting ready for my last ride today before loading it up, i kicked it and heard a snap, right at the pivot. glad it did'nt happen out on the trail and did it right at the truck.

hello,
i just checked in bike bandit, for 2002 they have 2 part #'s and 2 prices for different kick levers, 1 at $87 and the other at $95., both for a 2002 model.
the 2004 is the same part # as my 2001 in that site. which is the revised/ stronger piece.? any help would be great, thanks, jdv
