Wiped out on the MadKaw
« on: November 10, 2006, 09:08:45 PM »
:-o 2001 kx 250, big ass table top. things didn't go well in the land of daredeviling today. took the kaw out to motoextreme track in Corsicana Texas. was doin awsome(for me anyway). had a brand new iridium plug in her, and she loved it. had just got the big table down where I was clearing the whole jump, and the other one I had been dogging came up and bit me. the bike tilted straight up and I landed like a wheelie king. except for the whole landing flat on my back thing. Well the bike kept going and I didn't. she landed down the hill with the throttle dug down in the mud, where she continued to run wide open til my friend got over to shut her down. I fixed the broke brake handle and cleaned all the mud out of the throtle tube, put new grips and a new plug in. even sadder than my bruised ass, my little madkaw won't start. had spark, had fuel, and now have only 50psi of compression. so, all you sultans of saki, how bad do you think it will be? rings shrunk into the grooves, piston, crank bearing? it ran for about 1 or 2 minutes, on its side, free wheelin.

So anyway, Hi! I'm Brandon, how ya'll doin?

That blows mud :-D, hope your not in too bad a shape. As for the bike when was the compression test done after the spill? Was everything on the engine cleaned out and or replaced? If the carb wasn't cleaned or the exhaust is hindered somehow or the compression test was not done with the throttle wide open will gave poor results. When I do compression tests I make sure the carb is clean, air filter is clean and fresh and exhaust unplugged and kick her WOT until the needle stops moving. If you did all this then a top end is the least of your worries. If the bike was laying on it's side its hard to say if the side of the crank facing up was lubed while running. But the crank should be fine just check the free play of the rod and it's color on the big end when the top end comes off.

hey, I appreciate the insight. I don't think we did the comp. test with wide open throtle, but I shot carb cleaner into the plug hole and in the carb. then I kicked the crap out of it. it should have started on the carb cleaner for at least a couple of seconds. I checked the spark and its good. man I'm scared of how much this is gonna cost me. :|

sorry to hear your troubles, but if you do have to do a whole rebuild, at least its a 2t!   Imagine if you had to do a whole rebuild on a 4t!
I love 2t! :-D

Ahh, changed yer name... very cool.  If the crank, cases, jug, are OK shape I would definately do a rebuild.  Your basically talking bearings, seals, gaskets, piston/rings, rod kit (wise upgrade if yours is janky), fluids and some labor.  Not a bad investment for a solid no worries powerplant.  You can get some porting and extra power out of her at the same time.  Good luck.

I was doin some searchin today and found a kick ass site for this stuff. www.lukesracing.com , they have the crank, hotrod, gasket kit,oil seals, bearings all in a kit for 270, thats the best deal I've found. would like to do the work myself, but I'm scared of F-ing it up. thanx for lookin out for me though.
