Improve Your Riding
« on: June 26, 2006, 05:51:25 AM »
Going to the gym 3 days a week has improved my riding by 10 times. Stamina is the key and that is what I have gained going to the gym. I have found that Propel Fitness water works for me better than the sports drinks. I try to eat a bagel with peanut butter or toast with a banana for breakfast and drink alot of water on the way to the trails. Drink alot during the ride makes a big differance. Doing some stretching of the arms and legs and most of all is the forearms is good way to get ready to start the race or you ride. I like to get the blood flowing before I ride and by stretching and doing a couple of jumping jacks. Most guys I see at the riding places just get dressed and go ride. I use more of a light to med. weight at the gym with high reps. (no heavy weights). I have just started doing some forearm works out so I hope to report back on that. I have done the following for this whole year to date with great results. I hope it will help in my first race coming up. Hope ya'll will add any little sercerts you may have. Thanks.

Sure, ok...try this...A rep of push ups before you race will help with arm pump. It works! Paul.

I race hare scrambles, and one thing I like to do is to wave my hands above my head like a crazy man.  It may look silly, but it helps me out.  When I start to feel it coming on durring a race, I'll wave which ever hand side starts to cramp and it goes away, but do it before it happens!
