1998 KX 250 Sprockets???
« on: September 28, 2017, 02:20:35 AM »
I ordered a sprocket kit on ebay for my 1998 kx250. I went to put the rear on and its to big and doesn't fit on the hub and bolt pattern is wrong. They are JT. The part # I received is JTR46048. I looked on there web site and that's what it call s for.  Coincidentally the old sprocket is a JT also.  Part# JTR80852.  I looked that up and says it fits a 00-03 RM250? I bought this bike and have done a partial restoration on it. I looked up the RM rim and it uses 1 bearing on each side.  My rim has the KX250 1 on 1 side and 2 on the other?  I'm confused?  Any help or ideas? Can these rims be interchangeable??  Thanks Ken

Pretty sure its off 03 RM250.  The bike has been kinda a Frankenstein . My question is? Can I use this rim? I'm not sure about the spacers that came off, if they are correct?  Any ideas?  Thanks Ken

Hey Ken.
There is really a lot to your question.
If it fits and the chain does not come off, then yes, you can run it.
The real question is, should you run it?
I would start by putting the bike on a stand, then site down the chain from the back of the bike.
Is the chain straight?
Put the bike in neutral and spin the rear wheel.
Does the chain ride in the center of the sprocket or is it offset?
If it is offset you can adjust by shortening or lengthening one or both of the axle spacers.
When you back the rear axle nut off, how much gap is between the swingarm and the axle spacers?
Total gap is somewhere around 1/16".
Again that can be adjusted.
Too tight and it is a nightmare to get your rear wheel on.
Too loose and you are putting the swingarm in compression and can cause the welds to pop under stress.
There may be other issues as well but those are the ones that come to mind.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

PS... Somewhere on that hub are ID numbers.
Likely it's a 99 or older because in 2000 Suzi went to a 22mm rear axle diameter.
I'm guessing that it has 066 00B in raised lettering on it.
Probably on the outside face of either side of it.

The correct hub for your bike should have raised lettering R-1237 on the center section and will have two bearings on the sprocket side and only one bearing on the brake side of the hub.
