96 K5 Fork Springs
« on: February 22, 2016, 11:28:33 AM »
So ive got an 89 K5 that ive been working on little by little and I finally was able to do a fork swap on it to get rid of the conventional forks. I snagged some 96 forks on ebay, I know this isn't the most desirable year but its a lot better than what I had!. They seem to be valved pretty nicely but the issue is im a bigger guy who races mx and the springs are WAY too soft for me. The front end tries to knife on me in corners which isn't cool at all. I figured its not a big deal, ill just get some heavier springs.... turns out it is very difficult if not impossible to find springs for the 96 forks. If I need to I will have FC or RT make me some but id rather not if I can find some place that already makes them. Does anyone know of anywhere that might still make these springs??

welcome to the site.
not sure if there's anyone else...I wouldn't be surprised if there is somewhere.
I've been using Factory Connection since '95...and they've always treated me fair, and no complaints.
I've also used Race Tech a little, and have no complaints with them either.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

Sweet, I will give these guys a call and see what they offer. Ive also dealt with FC for some of my modern bike needs and there is no doubt that if it comes down to having custom ones made that they will get my business! Those guys are awesome.

Here is a resource that sells springs and will make custom springs too:

RaceTech http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/1/Kawasaki/KX500/1996

Cross Referencing the Fork: Certain years of KX125 and KX250 use the fork found on the 96 KX500. Find out the years. Springs fitting those years will fit the 96 KX500 fork. You can also cross reference the 96 KYB KX500 fork to other makes and models of motorcycle had the same KYB. Springs will swap between those forks and the 96 KYB too.

I have a nice set of 1994 forks which I believe are stock. And everything except engine parts for a 1990 and 1994. 1994 parts are real nice and clean

Just to give anyone who might be wondering about this topic an update, I called many places and didn't have any luck finding pre-made springs. I priced some through FC and also called RT just to compare. Race Tech told me that they didn't even have springs that they could modify to make the 96 fork springs but that they could have a custom shop down the road look into it. I already knew that Factory Connection could make them in house so that's the route I went. It took a few weeks to have done which was to be expected. Got them in and slapped in the bike and im not disappointed. Factory Connection comes through everytime! I would highly recommend them.

excellent...
I was wondering, as I see this thread every once and a while.
though there are many suspension guys/shops out there today, in 21-ish years using F/C, I've never had one complaint...ever.
