2001 kdx 220, To buy or not to buy?
« on: January 13, 2016, 09:55:49 AM »
so for the first time ever i've seen a kdx for sale here in norway, and it's kinda cheap but the thing is that it's in parts and the engine had a breakdown of sorts :? apparently it was run without oil in the gas :-o so how is it with engine parts for this thing? diffecult to come buy? expensive? and what sort of damage can i expect from the engine? complete rebuild or new top end?

The 220s are notorious for eating stock pistons, so that may be the problem. If so, then I would recommend a complete rebuild. Wossner has a rod and piston (the 200 and 220 use the same rod), so you can get parts for them. The motor (and bike) didn't change for 10 years, so other parts shouldn't be a problem. I have a 220 in my kx/kdx hybrid. They are a lot of fun to ride, and make a great buddy bike. If you can get it for a low enough price, it might be worth it.

it all comes down to how far you're willing/able to go with it....how cheap are you talking?
anytime I buy any used bike, I go into it expecting to drop $1500 right off the top for a complete rebuild....and that doesn't include possibly needing any tranny parts.
it also doesn't mean it's gonna need $1500 to rebuild it to make it rideable....but if you want it reliable...you may need to spend that much...or more!
again...it all depends on how far you're willing and able to go, money wise.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

it's 7000 nok(norwegian currency) plus my parts engine, a complete bike for less then 10000 nok is cheap here, but the engine ran without oil so i dont know if there is any hope for the cranck :? or cylinder even :-o , but i have my nearly completed k5, so i wouldnt be in a hurry to fix this kdx, but im not sure :|

it'll need a full rebuild.
and the fact that it's already been taken apart, makes it that much easier to just do a full rebuild.
