This is a fun, team race to raise money for Riderdown.org, held every New Year's Day. This year is the 15th annual event.
It's a hare scramble format, where everybody shows up and puts their name in a hat. All the AA/A riders are randomly teamed with a B/C rider and they switch off every other lap. The AA/A loop is a little longer than the B/C loop and has some extra challenging elements to make it interesting.
The gate entry (recommended $5.00 donation or clothing item, or food item) goes to the local food and clothing pantry to help the needy, while the race entry fees (suggested $20.00), goes to Riderdown.org to support injured racers.
Fred and Mary have been putting on this event for 15 years and they spend the year going around the national off-road and MX circuit collecting a lot of cool "swag" (signed jerseys, helmets, etc.) from professional racers and a lot of other cool stuff (camping gear, etc.), from other sponsors for a big silent auction at the end of the event, again with the procedes going 100% to Riderdown.org.
If you live in the midwest, you should come check out the Almosta Race. It's a blast for a great cause and a great way to ring in the new year!
