« on: December 19, 2015, 08:15:18 AM »
I'm currently doing a kx500af conversion. I'm using a 07 450 doner bike. I've been inform of how bad the brakes are, and I've herd of some people using crf brake components. Dose any1 know of any exchangeable parts. Thanks

I'm using a 2012 CRF front master on my '00 kx250...made an unbelievable difference.
you can run a S.S. brake line for better feel.
or you could go the expensive route, and get an oversized rotor.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

Did you use the KX brake line or the CR?

I used a KX brake line when I swapped mine.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Thank you Sandblaster.  I think Foxx told me once, but I'm in the middle of Christmas at a retail shipping place and my brain has turned to pudding.  :-D

What about the rear. So crf brakes should be interchangeable

honestly, I've never had an issue with how the Kawie rear brakes perform, just the fronts.

Did you use the KX brake line or the CR?

Kawie

What makes the most difference is flushing and replacing the brake fluid.  07 brakes=8 year old brake fluid that is suppose to be flushed every year.  I monkeyed with the whole CRF brake swap and had no benefit from the KX master cylinder when both systems had fresh fluid and bled properly.  That is riding everything from woods to desert.  I may run a newer KX 450f master cylinder to have fresher components and lower time, but that is all.

+1

And pop those pistons out and clean them....
Also clean or replace the seals.
They all build up goo between the seals and this greatly impacts the brake performance.

I tried rebuilding my stock master on my '00 twice, once with an aftermarket rebuild kit...which did nothing, then rebuilt it again with OEM parts to no prevail. So I tried another Kawie master from my '04 I had in my tool box, it was better, but not great...I ended up wasting $90 bucks.
I even tried using a longer adjuster bolt on the Kawie master, but I just couldn't get the feel at the lever as strong and precise as I wanted.

Once I put the CRF master on, it was totally different, super touchy and responsive....then adding the s.s. line shortly there after, was the icing on the cake.

Another thing we all need to consider, is that we all have different preferences and riding styles, and not everyone prefers them as strong/responsive as the next guy.

With that being said...
I like my front brakes to be as strong and responsive as I can get without having to spend the money for an oversized rotor...I adjust mine at the lever so if I spin the front wheel whilst off the ground, you can "just" hear the pads touching the rotor....I run a longer adjuster bolt, and I even swap out the lock nut on the lever adjuster for one half or even less the thickness, so the adjuster can go in even further.
The way mine are now, set up with the CRF master, if I pull in much more than 1/2" on the lever, I'm lifting the rear wheel...if I let any of my buddies ride it, I have to warn them how touchy the front brakes are....unfortunately there has been injuries from not saying anything.
And just like carbs, no two masters are exactly the same...the slightest discrepancies will give different results.

So the crf is a straight swap

pretty much...the only thing I
myself had to do, was shave off the little guard that protects the hose/banjo bolt on the CRF master...it just made it easier to route the hose by the handlebar...and that is the stock oem Kawie hose in the pic...I put a s.s. line on a few weeks later.

this was removed...
