KX250 power valve
« on: September 20, 2015, 08:08:41 PM »
Looking for some much needed help here....after much confusion it turns out ive a 94 KX250 engine in my 98 frame...can anyone help me here what year power valves fit this...was there a set that fitted multiple years? The reason im asking is i ordered a full set from ebay and it stated they fit years 94 - 98, but the are smaller (thinner) than the valves that were originally in the bike????
My head is bursting here

I don't know how you figured out what year your engine is but remember, multiple years of cylinders will swap on multiple years of lower ends.
So, if you need exhaust valves, be sure you buy them to fit the cylinder.
If your cylinder is a 1994 (Good year) you should have 1722 cast on the side of it.
If you have any other number on the side of your cylinder tell me what it is or go here and look up the numbers under the cylinder:

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

In 99 the diameter of the side vavles was reduced from 20.7mm to 16.7mm. 93 to 98 are the ones you are after, but be aware that they are no longer available especialy the LH one. I managed to find a new RH valve on ebay, so keep an eye out.

Just by comparing 94 and 98 left and right side barrel valves, they are not the same OEM part number(except the idle valve). I didn't compare the rest of the components though

94 left 12005-1182

    right 12005-1183

    idle 59051-1275

98 left 12005-1252

    right 12005-1253

    idle 59051-1275

As Sandblaster already has noted, ONLY the 1993 & 1994 KX250 have the same power valves suited to fit the "1722" cylinder. I just want this straightened out in case anyone finds this information during a search, we want them to have correct information.

Thanks Sandblaster i have 1722 stamped on my barrel thats the only way i Know its a 94....

Ive ordered 2x 120051182 from Cradley Kawasaki here in the UK, they measured the dimensions for me and all is good....£39. I only need 1182 which is still being made (thats why i ordered 2) ...1183 valve is spot on no damage which is lucky as you know its discontinued.

Thanks all again for the input.
