Mine does it sometimes on the first kick when it's cold.  I try not to give it to much gas when I start it and seems to go away. :D

Well, it does worry me.
I just got it back from thr dealer, and they just put in a new
stater, and flywheel.
So I would think that they would have timed it right?
What else could it be?

BTY; It's only done it once since I got it back from the dealer???

Hummmm???? :?:

Mine backfires on startup sometimes as well, my guess is like you figure it could be timing related.

Mine backs fire sometimes but only after choking it for a cold start. After it back fires the next kick it pops off and it's a live and ready. Mine has never back fired during hot starts.

I think most all of the 2 strokes that I have owned over the years all back fired when they were cold and started on the next kick!

I'm with Alan. You guys should try starting my PVL KX500.. :-/ Talk about kick-back and backfires. :-) It will wake up the dead.
