Where should the clutch grab on the lever?
« on: September 15, 2014, 05:29:05 AM »
Hi,

I noticed by 87 KX250 clutch grabs at the very end of the lever.

I'm not sure if that's normal, since I haven't had a dirt bike for some time, but when I had everything apart, I measured the plates and the clutch disc's and they were all in spec. As a matter of fact, it spec'd almost as a new clutch.

It doesn't slip or anything, but requires about a 1/2" - 3/4" of pull to disengage.

dinky,

it comes down to personal preference.... as long as it's adjusted somewhere between touching the grip/handlebar and going too far out.
I keep about 3/16ths to a 1/4" of play at the lever/perch....like so...

Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

OK thanks...but is it normal to have the clutch disengage/engage with only 1/2" or so of clutch lever movement?

sounds like you just need to adjust the cable itself...does your cable have this coupler?

The cable does have a coupler, but was just wonder if the clutch operates (under normal condition) at a 1/2" range of pulling the clutch lever regardless where the adjuster is.....

if it's working fine, I wouldn't be too concerned, providing the clutch plates/springs are good.
