Flywheel weight removal
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:28:47 AM »
I'm trying to take the FWW off a KX85.  Got the nut off easy with the impact gun but the weight itself is on tight.  I bought a new 16" channel lock, put rope down in the cylinder but even when I stepped on the wrench, it won't budge!

Would it be safe to apply a generous amount of heat or might that melt the stator?  Any other ideas?

Flywheel mags are held on by glue, and plastic..     even if you did avoid the stator...

Pics would be nice.
If I understand you correctly, all you removed was the fly wheel nut?
On a lot of the weights there is 4 small set screws on the outside edge of the weight.
These have to be loosened up.
Even then some are a bit hard to get off.
DO NOT use heat.....
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.
