Renew ownership k500 after 10 yrs countershaft Q?
« on: August 08, 2012, 05:14:03 PM »
As said above I got a 04 k5, and happy as hell. bought it and the next day, tranny fluid puked out just sitting...all of it on the floor. rode it the day before, no leaks!!!

So I purchased, a cs seal and o-ring... I'm sure, it's not a mystery, but I must be sure. What is the order, or is there a trick about the countershaft seal, o-ring ,ad sleeve. I can probably assembly it as it would seem to be. I'm a competent mechanic, just realize these are going to be unobtanium, some day so I want it just right.

If you need a quick exploded view here's a good link.  Prices on parts are very fair.

Take everything appart.   clean CLEAN CLEAN your brains out..    inspect for anything gone bad... (sharp edges, cracks, blah blah blah)

Grease oring....    install seal (with some yamabond on the outside edge)..   grease inner seal lip.        make sure no sharp bits on the sleeve,  or odd wear spots (if there is, it wont seal well).     install sleeve..     install CS sprocket.

if it PUKED.    id look at your breather line.   see if its plugged.      pressurised and well ya know....
