Changing the carb on 2003 kx250
« on: May 21, 2012, 11:21:56 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has thought about pulling the stock carb off and replacing it with one that doesnt have the tps sensor on it like off of a 98 kx250? Would there be any advantage or disadvantage. The main reason I'm askin is no one offers a lighting coil for the 03-04 kx250 because the carb sensors apparently ask for too much power to have a lighting coil.

Theres a guy on Thumper Talk thats making Eline replicas for that bike. You can run a 45w equivalent led off of the powerjet coil. They only require 6w. LED taillight is 2w. The PJ coil puts out around 25w. I run them on my 04.

My wife has a original Eline on her 03 KX250 and it does stick out a little more. She uses a Moose shifter that she got from Eline that clears the case. Not sure what its from or if it was custom made for Eline for the KX application.

The TPS sensor sends a signal to the CDI box, which modifies the ignition advance curve for better ride ability without costing peak power.
It's a good thing to have, but not essential. I'm not totally sure what the ignition curve does with no TPS signal, though - might put it into a very safe ignition map which will slow the bike right down.

No point in swapping to a different carb if you disconnect the TPS - pretty sure they're an airStriker, power-jet PWK which is as good as it gets.
