What year WR and what year KX are you talking about?  A lot of non-KX 500 shocks have issues, because the KX pipe interferes with the shock reservoir.
Perhaps I have a dirt bike addiction?

Honestly you can make anything fit with enough patience and fabrication, but I wouldn't mess with putting something from an older bike on your KX.  It won't be sprung or valved correctly.  I think you would be better off buying a used KX 500 shock from Sandblaster.  At least you know that it will work and won't bind or put undue stress on your linkage.  This list will show what years of shocks (and other parts) will fit your bike.
