new to dirt on 2 wheels
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:12:36 PM »
hello, i just picked up a 1990 kx 500 its a basket case.  many pieces.  i would like to build it and ride it.  i may even pick up another bike before hand to ride so i dont kill myself on the kx 500.  i hear they are super powerfull.  i live in florida and enjoy riding my 04 gsxr 750 and my 07 suzuki drz 400sm.  got an 88 mr2 in dodge viper yellow and an aspen white 04 subaru sti.  i like things with engines that go.  oh yeah and i have two 97 honda fourtrax 200 II's.  had em since new and have learned the dirt on these.

wow, just looked at my original intro post.  I mainly lurk and dont really post on this website.  I have learned a great deal from all of you guys tho.  I since have a added a few bikes to my collection.  I first added an 88 cr250r man that things fast, it seems the older the better especially since i kept up with an 07 kx450f until he used his last gear whilst i was topped out in 5th.  also got an 04 cr125, handles like a bmx bike.  picked up an 01 kx100 for fun and it was $500 but had a grenaded engine, i put all new seals, bearings, and crank in it just need to do the topend.  also picked up a 2000 rm250 for $300 with an engine in a disassembled state and yet to do anything with it.  more exciting is the 04kx250f i got for $500, yes this bike is riddled with problems but since it was cheap and already blown up i will be replacing everything that is problematic.

I kinda aborted my 1990 kx500 project since i had no engine and saw how expensive they are.  dont worry cause i bought a complete but abused 1989 kx500 for $600 some idiot at a machine shop had bored the plated jug lol, that doesn't work .  so i completely rebuilt this engine bearings, seals, replated jug, wiseco piston, vforce3 reeds, some other hardware odds and ends and its ready to go into the freshly repaired and repainted frame.  im using the 1990 forks and swingarm for an updated look.  this bike was in desperate need of a restore since everything was worn out or damaged.  that was the final plan anyway until i read about the kx250 steel frame swap and how relatively easy it is.  so i have got the frame, seat, subframe, airbox, tank, and pegs and the goal is to keep costs down for now by using the stuff from the 500 such as rear suspension, front suspension, and wheels brakes tires, controls.

 Hey Sickle,
It is just the way things work out in Cyberspace.. Guys get busy and sometimes life throws you a curve.
Folks seem to drift in and out and it's no biggie.  You have seemed to have gotten bitten by the bike bug!
Please jump in a little more frequently!   The more the merrier!

And please, post some pics  :-D
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.
