We have had a few situations over the past few months on the 50mm KYB shocks where the first shim on the rebound side is folding down into the compression ports and actually "ripping" the shim. It is happening on not only our revalved shocks but on stock stacks and other suspension companies revalves as well. I spoke to Ricky at Factory Connection and he has seen it on their stuff too. At this time we recommend that in any 2009 or 2010 KYB 50mm shock that you install one of our rear pistons. We will not build another one here with out our piston. When quoting pricing, automatically add the extra piston cost into the revalve and explain to the customer that we have had several problems with the stock piston and that our pistons will cure the problem plus give them some added performance. If you get a revalved shock back for service, explain the problem to the customer and suggest the addition of our piston with a valving updates while it is in for the oil change. If they do not accept your offer on the piston, then also tell them that if the problem occurs and destroys their shock they are 100% responsible for the damage and Pro-Action will not offer any warranty service. You would also at that point need to put on their invoice that they declined the Pro-Action piston install and that there is no warranty. We have had some that just bent or ripped the shim without any other damage, but we have had more that destroyed the body and the shaft. The addition of our piston will not only save the customer in the long run, but will prevent them from coming back on you if the problem occurs. Any questions, feel free to give us a call.
