87 KX 500
« on: July 12, 2010, 10:28:30 AM »
Hi though I dont ride a kx 500 I am doing a a minor overhaul on a really decent 87 for a friend.Sorry I ride a 97 cr 500 but think the Kawasakis are great bikes too.Only Honda and Kawasaki made the best open bikes. What I have done so far is new plastics, chain sprockets, seat cover, mag cover, check carb, ignition, rebuilt, silencer, boyesen reeds, tires, compression release head mod.Bike wasnt ridden much and he paid only 600 for it from his friend. Will let you know how it stacks up against my Honda power wise when I get it running.Im sure its a brute when in tune.

 Hey Great White,
You'd be surprised at how many multi-manufacturer owners hang here,  I think you will also be surprised that you won't get beat up too bad for coming clean.  This is has been the best place for me to be able to get help without the guys making you feel like a fool on account you haven't been a mechanical engineer and raced for twenty years...
There are several present active members with "Vintage" KX-5's  I'm sure they'll check in and be able to help you with anything that needs fixin'  :-D
