Cutting a KX 250 Fly Wheel
« on: June 03, 2010, 04:31:14 AM »
I would like to find out if anybody knows or has ever cut a stock fly wheel to make the motor rev quicker. I am having my motor built by Madman Engineering and I'm trying to set it up for the Dunes. It is a 3mm stroker wich will rev a little slower I know and having it ported and polished, also retarding the timing, possibly a bigger carb. I have a lathe a my work I just would like to know how much I can take off. I called Stealthy and they said I would have to take off at least 4oz to tell a difference. Any ideas?

i soaked a lot of money into a 250 trying to make it a dune bike. pumped it up to the point were it was a time bomb and it still got smoked by 500's and 450's. so i took it as a lose and got something with more cc's. the old saying is still true especially in the dunes "there is no replacement for displacement"  if you really want a dune bike don?t waste any more time on that 250 and start looking for a k5.

I agree a 250 can be a great dune bike but i would mess with it too much just rally it and have fun jumping it. something that the 450's and 500's don't do as well IMHO
