Coolest magnet tool ever
« on: February 06, 2010, 02:24:27 PM »
Most of us probably keep all kinds of little odds and ends around. Were not sure why :| but we don't toss this crap because it maybe good for something some day. This is one of those cases. It's the magnet from a bycicle spedo, it goes on a spoke. As it passes a pick up coil on the fork to count wheel revolutions to calc speed. Any way this is one stuck on the end of a piece aluminum tig welding rod. The rod Is three feet long and can be bent in any desired way to get into hard to reach spots. I think it's cooler then any store bought magnet tool I have ever owned, I guess I'm easily amused.

Nice BDI.  I save all sorts of things too.
If some is good, and more is better, then too much is JUST RIGHT!  B.O.

Another great Idea on the magnet rod.
I also have to confess about not being able to toss out good stuff.. Truth of the matter is I even disassemble the Items I can't repair to save the nut's bolts, washers, and wire etc...
I have been trying to put together a small waste oil burner from all the vehicles I drain.  There are several models out there however they are quite large and expensive.  If I could scale one down and put it in the wood stove.....
   sorry, just got carried away...

The best small magnets are the ones from computer hard drives, neodymium.  Any computer IT guy can give you a handfull.  Same idea though, bust a small piece off one end and tape or glue it on a flexible rod..  By far the smallest, strongest magnets I have come across.  Cam.

I once took appart an office copier for every screw, bearing, steel shaft and motor. I even got some very cool magnifying lenses that worked great for starting fires  thanks on the hard drive thing kxcam, I have a couple dead ones in a box of computer parts.
