cylinder scoring

hello everyone  I'm new to this site and i am hoping someone can help.

i have recently finished rebuilding my bike,  upon first start up(ran for about 10min. max) coolant was leaking from head. i pulled the cylinder and noticed some light scoring.  is this normal?


(new rod, piston, rings, cylinder replated)

Mine doesnt look like that, so I would say NOT normal. Why did it leak coolant ? Why did it score the walls ?

cylinder needs resurfacing. thought it was ok since place that plated it didnt say anything or do it, but i guess they only replate.

as for the scoring i dont know what caused it was hoping to get answers here.

I don't know if I would call that scoring. Looks to be very light stratches from dirt/debris. Give us more details about why the engine was rebuilt and what was rebuilt in the engine. I have seen that before and in some causes it's due to the cylinder not being cleaned before install. Once you get a fresh replate cylinder from a vendor always washer the cylinder in warm soapy water and use a brush to brush the cylinder to ensure you get all the grit out of the cross hatch.

repairs started as oil leak, and grew to full rebuild(all new lower end bearings, crank rebuilt with new wiesco rod, cylinder replated , new wiesco piston. didn't wash cylinder, figured it was ready to go when i got it back.   should it be honed again before reinstalling? should i get new rings? do you think any debris got washed into the lower end , and should it be cleaned out?

problem solved. coolant leaking into cylinder washing walls causing dry condition.

cylinder , head resurfaced , cylinder honed , new rings , new gaskets. TIME TO RIDE.

aceton will get most of the dirt out of the replate.
