Who Rides Killpecker Dunes
« on: July 30, 2009, 06:44:10 AM »
I was up in Wyoming last year and went out to the Killpecker Dunes near Rock Springs and the weather was so bad I never got to ride. We are thinking of heading back up there in May of 2010. Anyone rider there?

Thanks Alan :-D 8-) :-D

Sorry sorry, just making a distasteful joke about the name of the place ;)

alan, i have been wanting to ride @ killpecker for a couple of years. i have researched the place alot on the www. and it looks like good riding, but i have a friend at work that told me the a couple weeks ago that he rode there 2 years ago and really didn't like it. he said that the hills are very small and there are rocks in the sand everywhere. i may still give it a try if i am passing by but i don't think that i would make it a destination after talking to him. not trying to steer you away from wyoming, just passing along the info.

Thanks Maddog!

The place is vast and your right it has lots of rolling dunes much like parts of St Anthony in Idaho. From pictures and videos I have seen there are few large dunes, however if you watch the second you tube link it just goes for ever. I don't ride my KX5 in the dunes anymore, it is set up for desert running. So in the dunes I like my 700 V Force quad and my Teryx for long days in the dunes.

The trip I am planning for next May will be Mescalero Dunes ,NM,  Killpecker, back to St Anthony, Little Sahara, UT, Sand Hollow, Ut, Cinders AZ, and Hot Well Dunes,AZ. Every couple of years I have to go back to Glamis, just nothing like it for pure grandeur! If I can pull this trip off I will have made it to 14 of the dunes in the US.

Alan :-D :-D
