Out with the 250, in with the 500
« on: March 24, 2009, 05:47:42 PM »
Hello all, scored a 2000 KX500 yesterday for $1950.  Has a steering stabilizer, pro taper bars, extensions (for tall dudes!), black trick subframe, fat pegs, zip ty pipe and silencer, rad valve, ACME done up suspension for 250lb rider (desert).  Ordered a set of EVO 5 graphics (factory fx) and solid black gripper seat today to freshen it up a bit.  I've got my 2000 KX250 for sale, freshly rebuilt with wiseco top end, v-force, fmf sst pipe and silencer, racetech rear coil, renthal bars if anyone is interested!

And no, that's not me sitting on the bike, that's my 2 year old.  He about freaked seeing two of those green bikes in my back yard!

Thanks!  I thought so, have never ridden a bike with a steering stabilizer, so we'll see if I like it.  Suspension feels a little soft, although set up for a 250lb rider (I'm 265).  I'm planning to hit the motocross track today to putt around since I haven't ridden it.

looks like you did well...That should be a great bike!

In case you did not know that suspension was setup by someone who really knew 500's. Darrell was a great guy and loved by everyone he came into contact with. Its a shame he had to leave this earth. I'd be willing to bet that bike does quite well across the desert floor!

Take good care of it!

Congrats on the bike.  I couldn't imagine riding a bike with twice what mine has.

LOL thank you, I tried!  My boy just turned 2 and rides a little green "kawasaki" electric quad that goes 2.5 mph.  He'll get himself a gasser when he turns 3 next february.

As for Darrell, from what I have heard, he was a hell of a guy, and he did an EXCELLENT job on the suspension, I just took it out for a spin the first time yesterday after work cruising up and down the dirt mounds (for building houses) and jumping a little, feels night and day difference from my 250!  Fortunately, I'm a big boy, so the 500 is still very manageable, and it's geared so stinkin tall that it takes some of the bite away, but boy I tell you the top end band is ridiculous with the pipe silencer and rad valve!  I am very pleased and heading to the motocross track a mile from my house on Sunday!
