welding on aluminum sub frame - 2001 KX500
« on: March 09, 2009, 04:32:09 AM »
Anybody know what the OEM used for the alloy on the subframe?
I'm adding to the subframe and have a choice of tubing materials (2024, 6061, 3003, and 6063)
Have you had any experience either adding to the subframe or weld repairing?

I would use 6061 or 6063. 6063 is a little easyer to bend. Most extrusions are one or the other and tubing is an extrusion. Weld it with 5356.

Got it.  Thanks.  Picking up some 6061 T-6 tonight.
