87 KX500 KIPS
« on: August 14, 2007, 02:03:27 PM »
While removing the base gasket on my 500 I ran into a problem. I cleaned the old gasket of the cylinder and set it down to do something else, when I picked it back up the KIPS valves slid part way out of the cylinder. The problem is, I didn't mark the position of the valves, now I can't put the topend back on until I figure out the proper KIPS position. Anybody got any ideas? I checked out the KX500 topend rebuild breifly, but thats for a newer bike. Where can I get a manual for my 87?

I have been looking for your answers and I found that the Clymer's manual has more info than the Kawie service manuals. Here is a link and you can also always find them on ebay......

I wouldn't even attempt to mess with the power valve with out an manual.

Alan :-D

PS ebay great price!

Thanks for all the help Alan, I really appreciate it. I checked out the pics and that KIPS valve is different than mine, that cylinder must be off a newer bike. Your right I'm not putting my bike back together without having the KIPS set right, I'm ordering a Clymer manual "tomorrow".  Bob.
