dang bolt!!!!!
« on: February 27, 2007, 02:38:14 PM »
had a screw up today on the 500. was ghanging the wheel on the front, and while retightening the 4 little bolts on the front of each side of the little "clam shell" clamps that hold the axle in, one of the them stretched and broke on me. now these seem to be pressed in and not all that easily replacable. anybody got any ideas here?really uncomfortable with the whole broken bolt that holds the wheel on thing. even tried to swap the whole fork assembly from my 01kx250, but the bearings wouldn't work from either bike with the others forks(the 1 that fits the housing won't fit the stud, and visa versa).....HELP!@!!!!~!! :|

Also can you swap the bottom stuff, the axle mount, brake calliper mounting stuff from the 250 forks to the 500 forks?

That bolt that you broke is a stud and is threaded into the fork. It must be extracted. Can't see yours, but there are many ways to extract a broken bolt. Drill a hole DEAD CENTRE in the stud and use a screw extractor. A very small amt. of heat and some good penetrating fluid (not wd40, cause it sucks).
If you are not into this type a thing I highly recomend having a machine shop remove it for you. On mine I installed "heli coil"'s to each hole. This makes each hole steel threaded, instead of easilly damaged. A machine shop can do this for you.

yeah, thought that might be it. its broke off about flush with the surface of the housing, nothing to grab on to.

what about the whole housing switch with the 01 kx250 stuff from the bottom of the forks?

anybody know if you can swap out the wheel mounting part at the bottom of the fork legs with the 250? sure like the solid piece design that is on it better.
