« on: April 23, 2006, 05:39:16 AM »
the trip was great other than i still cant get my kx 500 to beat my bro's rmz450. he cant beat me on the flat but he stays right beside me on thunder and choke. while my buds cr 500 just flat out spanks both of us. i can't seem to get any more power i jetted it to a 52 pilot and 162 main with the needle in the #2 and geard back up to stock. the only mods i have are boysen reeds and pro circit platnum pipe. and a flywheel weight. anyone got any ideas on what im not doing right?

thanks cory

Remove the flywheel weight. You need that engine to spool up as fast as it can for the sand. That weight is slowing the rev's down. I have never ridin in the sand but it seems the flywheel weight would be more for motocross or woods.

Cory,
It would be easier & possibly cheaper to buy another used flywheel on ebay. That way you could switch back to the weighted one later if you wanted to. Cam.

Remove flywheel. Gear it 14/50.  Mill the head.

I would take a good look at your jetting.  I don't know what altitude you are riding at but a 162 main seems very lean for the sand.  I was running lean (165 main) when I got to Sand Lake Oregon last November.  I put in a 170, the largest main I had with me, and the difference was huge.
