Lectron carb for 1987 KX250
« on: January 16, 2023, 12:37:19 AM »
Anyone here run one on their 87 KX250?  How was throttle cable fitment or did you have to fight getting the exact length and cable ends?

It's a lot LOT of money to put in an older bike but I heard one on someone's YZ465 yesterday and it sounded butter smooth with no smoke.  Also thinking about one for my KTM 250sx / 17 model.

For the 87 KX250 I'd find a 38mm Air Striker.
IF you want to test one without spending a ton of money, buy a cheap Chinese one.
34.00 on eBay

I do not recommend for a long term solution but you can play with it and see if you like it.
If you do, then invest in a Original.
For 34.00 it's worth a shot.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

I'll 2nd the cheap ebay carb try-out.  I bought one for my bike recently b/c I just gave up trying to fix the original 39mm PWK (this carb is the definition of worn-out).

The flea-bay carb has been working pretty well (been about a month).  Jury's out, I know they typically have low long-term durability.  But, it let me at least ride the bike and sort out some other stuff with it... verify some things are 'ok' (bike doesn't overheat after new rads put on, brakes overhaul verified to work, etc...) so it's been worth the 30'ish bucks for that alone.

I doubt I'll pop for a Lectron, but I'd like to get a real PWK in the future when funds allow.

Depends on what you doing with the bike , is it a keeper or selling it , i got a bunch of bikes with 38 air strikers on them , i have one on one of my k5 and one on a kdx200 both genuine keihin and work very well but like allways being toying with the idea on getting the latest lectron that come out recently designed for 300 to 500 cc 2 strokes to try on another k5 i have , i also have 2 kx250 that have oem air strikers on them  and i was looking for some more feed back on how they perform on the 250 size bikes , it hard to believe what guys say on them testing certain size bikes on you tube , it good to here what people who are useing them on there own bikes what they say .so if it a keeper get the lectron  :-D
