2000 KX500 kickstart slip
« on: May 10, 2022, 12:29:34 PM »
I get compression, but when I kick hard to start it goes loose. Had someone watch and they said the whole gear turned. Check all teeth and they are good (the gears on the bottom of kick boss I thought were stripped, but looking at a new one it looks like they come that way without bottom teeth)?
Kx500 kick shaft: 13066-1056
Kick pedal boss: 13061-1408
^^^^ I originally thought these parts were culprit, but like I said they appear to be good and everything turns inside case. Through some research it seems that it could be a spring issue or the ratchet (gear) could be stripped. I’m about to get the shaft out to take a look at that and see if the doing is out of place or broken or if the ratchet is stripped.

Backstory:
This happened after some idiot looped my bike in the parking lot. I washed it, it started right up afterward, then took it out riding and the kicker started going loose half way through.

Any ideas what could have happened or on what to expect or look for. Any suggestions are welcome and helpful, thank you!
