1987 kx500 flywheel(rotor)
« on: May 06, 2019, 04:26:16 PM »
I went to pull the flywheel off of my 1987 kx500 and the puller I have bent the flywheel(rotor), I’m looking to buy a new one and have found a few but they are around $140. My question is, can I buy a cheaper one like a 250 flywheel from the same year or is that just completely wrong? The part numbers are close and they look very similar but I’m just not sure enough to buy one yet. Do you guys know what I need to be looking for and do you know a good place to buy a flywheel(rotor) that would fit my bike.

Sound like you did not use the correct puller.  A 3 jaw perhaps?  It is a little hard to find an 87 flywheel, but here is the best place to fin someone that might.  An buy the correct puller for the toolbox.

Yes, those flywheels are sought after for SM and drag racing.
They won't be cheap.
I don't know of any 250 flywheel that will work with your stator.
You can bolt on a 250 stator and flywheel but you will need the matching CDI and coil.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Thanks for the info guys, I’ll definitely buy the right puller and look into getting a flywheel up and running, looks like this whole bike is going to need to be rebuilt, just found a chip in the cylinder wall. 😩😩
