Like mentioned previously, you should try standing; bending your knees a little so they are not "locked out" and still flexible on the questionable sections of the ride; squeeze the seat and side panels with your legs: and keep your back arched a little and arms semi straight. You want to stay limber but poised to get the bike under control if need be. Getting too far over the bars will definately cause some steering issues in emergency situations as well as putting too much weight on the front wheel when not powered up. Moving your bar mounts too far forward will also cause some sluggish steering. Most guys that ride for long periods standing have a steering damper so that the front end doesn't get away from them.
Just remember, when in doubt, GAS IT !! hehehe Really, sometimes people chop the throttle when the bike gets squirly, causing even more front end squirm and the bike wanting to swap ends. Smoothly stay on the gas and get your butt just touching the seat, that way you know where the bike is under you.
