From the formulas in the manual that came with my 2001.

Those combo's will get you in the ball park and from there you may need a jet size up or down, or a needle change up or down to fine tune it or your bike maybe mod'ed to the point that the volumetric efficiency is higher than the 85% that is assumed in my chart. Coming from a race background I'm sure you've seen the cars / bikes with close to 100% volumetric efficiency at which point the jetting changes DRASTICLY  :lol:

Well I have a 60 slow jet now.  In order to get any idle (with 0-2 turns on the mixture) I have to have the idle speed screw in all the way.  Definitely too rich.  So I decided on a 58 but everyone around here has only the 55.  So I ordered a 58.  Safer to be too rich, I figure.

This is not related to the topic but I am wondering what in the world have you done to get a sportster or any HD to run 180 mph? What type of fuel was used? What type of chassis? How long was the distance? Just curious......

Nothing.... it was all stock.   :shock:

Actually it had a 1650cc engine that made over 150 HP.  The wheelbase is 70" and it's got a GSXR inverted front end.  It did 180 in the standing mile at an East Coast Timing Association meet in Maxton, NC.  We also took two records at Bonneville @ 167 MPH.  The engine wasn't mine, though.  It's now got a 1300 in it now that only makes 107 HP.  but it still did 153 two weeks ago.

I like the bike alot, it really hauls a$$. I met one of the tech officials for ECTA last year and have flirted with the idea of going down there. He said that there are alot of classes that don't have records yet or if they do they are "soft". He said it wouldn't be that hard to become a record holder in one of the more unpopular classes. Maybe I will give it a shot one day......anyway coool bike!
