Colorado FS 717.. Divide Colorado
« on: July 15, 2015, 03:31:23 AM »
Rebuilt and sealed the forks Sat night on the kx250 and decided it was time to take a ride Sunday... Went out to Divide Colorado to ride FS 717 and surrounding areas... Primarily as a trip to scout around for camping spots for a weekend long camp and ride trip in mid August...
Never been to 717 before so we picked up a trail map and off we went... Me on my 2000 KX250 and my buddy Richard on my 2008 KFX 450R ...

There's tons of trails to ride in this area but the cool thing is the main 717 loop is for OHV only with a width of less than 50" basicly bikes and quads... We scouted around the main roads and rode about a third of 717... Found a few spots to park the motorhome and then found a few trails we want to explore a little more ...

The day was about like any other when riding had a couple of close calls but nothing to serious... The trails had tons of water and several deep creek crossings all in all a great time... I put my go pro on Richard and we got tons of footage...

I had what I would consider a pretty serious wreck near the end of the day... Unfortunately the card ran out of room on the go pro before hand...
I was hauling but down a full size service road pinned in either 4-5 gear.. Way faster than I should've been riding ... Went around a corner All of a sudden the entire road was rutted up with 12-18" ruts and I had no where to go... It was in a rut and next thing I know wrestling and toppling down the road with the bike .. We must've skidded 50-75 feet.. It took me a few minutes to shake the cobwebs out... Richard was more concerned than I was he said all he saw was me go around corner and then a big cloud of dust...  Once I was able to stand first thing I did was check the bike lol... No serious damage new brake lever did its thing and clutch lever just spun on the bars... A few new scrapes on plastic but overall great...
Then myself I always ride in full gear allthough for just trails I usually don't wear my leatt brace... Had full knee shin and thigh pads a fox ballistic upper with full wrist to shoulder padding, chest plate, spine plate, kidney belt ect... Boots , helmet , gloves and jersey & pants...
I feel fortunate that after checking myself I only had about a 1 1/2 inch by 3 inch road rash between shoulder and bicep... I was a little sore but that was it... Later I found other real small scratches on my arm.. But overall I was untouched which in itsself seemed like a miracle considering how fast I was going when I went down... Seemed the helmet took the brunt of impact .. I broke visor off and scraped up entire helmet . Worst area was right cheek area.. Really deep scrape and all paint gone... Even had a nice tire mark across where visor was where the wheel ran me over or something ...

I'll post up some helmet pics and hopefully get some video edited and posted later this week
