std k5 vs sf k5
« on: June 20, 2015, 08:34:46 AM »
Just started rebuilt std frame k5 few more bits for it than it going up against the 250 01 k5 , should be interesting to see and feel the difference between the to different frames , engines will be set up as close as possible, than I will try a set of kxf 450 15 forks etc on std k5  , they say on mxa flick they slide straight in , so I will give that a go as well as we have a modified set on a 15 here , will let you know if it works and how the 2 k5 compare in due course , time is short as the 15 getting sold to be replaced by a 16 as soon as possible.

You will need to triple clamps off the kx450F.
And you will need a custom stem such  as made by Emig Racing.
it will be cool to see how your build turns out.

the builds are done , as for the 15 forks fitting i'm only going off what that guy was saying on mxa mag , as I have all the parts available at home , its only a matter of trying it , take one fork out and seeing if the other goes in , if it doesn't it doesn't matter.Mxa are not saying the full story. Time will tell.

Hmmm....
KX450F forks 07:  UPPER 53.8MM - LOWER 59.1MM
KX500 forks 97-04:  UPPER 53.8MM - LOWER 58.9MM
That's interesting...
Anybody have a set of KX450F forks a bit newer then 07 that the could measure the clamping diameters on?
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Roughly the same figures for the 08 450
I think I need a new vernier caliper

Dont bother measuring forks etc , as i said i had all the parts there , the kx450f 15 forks slide in to k5 std triple clamps , i will check axle offset later , it looks good by eye .

I will try to get time next week end and fit front forks wheel and brake complete and take it for a ride , at least the front brake will work better from the 15 model.

WELL finally rode the kx250 01 frame 500 against the k5 98 back to back the k5 98 had the kx450 15 front end on it , the 01 had the better seating position and was easier to move your body around , tight corners 01 was better , flat corners std was just as good if not better , the 15 front end held the std bike up in the stroke better but made the rear shock feel soft , so if I kept this combination I would go up one on the spring rate , which it probably needs anyway and I would fit a gold valve in it as well so I can balance the combination . So the std k5 will have to give it front end back to it 450 brother , oh well . The std k5 is still a great bike , I just wish I had more time to try some of the 450 shocks , have anyone tried it yet , for fitment etc , I am so pushed for time at this time of the year it could save me some work , I might try one after the racing season over? The 15 forks are a improvement especially with the bigger brake as well , I think the std bike turns better with these 15 forks than the std ones.
