HELP 87 kx 250
« on: April 23, 2014, 11:55:52 AM »
If my motor was rebuilt 10 years ago then stored in the shed will the crank seals be perished?  iv done maybe 25 hours on her and still killing plugs every so often.   It just doesnt seem to be running at 100 %

Hiawatha ride we put 14 hours on my mates bike so i must have done same and i went through 3 plugs..

Plug comes out oily and black sort of wet..

Since that long ride bike has not been happy,  Tonight i read lots from here and something I read got me thinking,  I pull off my "stator"  cover the plastic one on left side,  out comes the water Sad  im assuming the pressure cleaner got a bit close or the water spray from the back of my car may had something to do with it.

I pulled off "flywheel"   not sure if im talking right as i said previously i can work on cars but doing 2 stroke bike for first time lol..  Now im sure those magnets on the inside shouldnt have rust on them??  what should i do im lost without the smell of 2 stroke it really hurts... Sad

i could get spark but im sure it used to be more spark and easy to start but not so easy any more ......

She even let go a back fire...  it was load like a shot gun load......

There should be a bolt there.
Reasons why it's not?
1. Someone took it apart, lost it and figured it wasn't necessary to replace it.
2. A Covert Government agency decided that by removing everyone's stator bolts they could help aging American fastener companies sell more fasteners.
3. Aliens needed a bolt with the right iron oxide to aluminum oxide ratio to power their interstellar drive and yours was the best they could find.

You need to get a ohm meter and test your stator.
I have tested stators that looked far worse and worked perfectly.
But you won't know for sure till you test it.
If you don't have a manual, you need to get one as the info there is invaluable.

the 2 coils on the stator are correct  first one was 502   should be  432 - 648  second was  11 should be 7.7 to 11.5

back to the drawing board

Disconnect your kill switch and try it.
Look for cracks along the edges of the fly wheel.
Test the coil, including the cap.
Make sure the coil is properly grounded.
Check all wires for cracks or breaks.
Test all connectors to be sure there is proper continuity.

Awesome cleaned out everything and found some dodgy connectors.

put the stator back together and all the wiring test for spark nice bright spark :)

2 kicks and it pushed back hard.

Roll started it and she fired straight up but the idle is high now and their was no idle set on the carb i had it set all the way in have i adjusted the stator position thats caused this?  I put everything back the same way it was but manual tells me 11 deg BTDC at 11000 RPM do i need to take it to the shop (miles away from me) or it seems to me that im a little more advanced i could just back it off a little  :|
