Good bikes or not?
« on: April 26, 2014, 07:05:19 PM »
A buddy of mine made a Craigslist add to trade his ninja 600 and a guy offered him a 99 wr400f. I don't have any experience with or know anything about that model. So he's trying to get any info or opinions on them he can so he can know if its an alright trade or to steer clear of it. He's been wanting to get into dirt bikes and he bought the ninja for $600 so he figured it would be an alright trade. What do you all think about them are they good bikes? Here's a picture of the one their trying to trade.

Nothing? I know its not a kx but figured somebody would have some input or experience with these bikes. Any way he's probably going to make  the trade. Its going to be his first dirt bike but he's been riding street bikes for a good while so he should be alright if he takes it easy I hope. Were at work so he hasn't had a chance to go check it  out yet so we'll how it goes once we see it in person.

cant help you much but heard they were  decent, reliable bikes. but like anything that old, all depends on the owner and the maintenance they kept up on...I absolutely love my 012 wr450f with fuel injection for sure! thumpertalk.com in the wr section has some good info on them

If the oil was changed regularly with a quality oil and the valves were kept in adjustment and it wasn't beat, then they are good bikes although some were ticklish to start.
For 600 bucks I would take it.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Alright thanks ramblnman  going to have to go check out thumper talk and see what they say about them. And that's what I figured sandblaster for $600 even if it wasn't in the best shape he could either turn around and sell it or part it out and most likely get his money back. Or just ride it till its completely done and he'd probably get his money's worth in $hit$ and giggles

A seemingly good running bike for $600 seems good.
