Shock fitment question?
« on: January 23, 2007, 11:09:48 AM »
Will a 1989 KX500 rear shock fit a 2001 without problems? I had a guy offer me one for 75.00. Mine on the 2001 is real bouncy and I really dont have the cash to have it rebuilt, we just had a Christmas baby! any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I had the same question about six months ago and was told by a guy at my local dealership that it as long as it was 88 - up, it would fit.  I think they changed some of the shock settings however I think they all bolt up the same.  Again this is just what I was told, I am sure someone else on this board would be able to give you a better answer

It will bolt up. I installed a '99 shock on my '90.. The valving I believe is a little different. But the shock bolts right up and will work fine.

Thanks! I was sure it would fit, however I don't think I would use it without having it recharged and maybe resealed! :-)
