Any body running a 40 Lectron?
« on: October 31, 2012, 02:52:33 AM »
I have just installed a 40 Lectron on my dirt bike and was wandering what everyone else is running for needles.
its bone stock except for a FMF woods pipe. My dune bike has some other mods and I run a 44 with a 7-2 needle the only  extra needle I had was a 5-2 and it seems to be on the lean side I am up to a 85 power jet and turned way in on the needle.I am around 750' elevation.

Everyone is running a 4-2xlat about 1.025"

I'm running a 5-2xl. And I think it's going to be rich.   Havnt gotten it out of town yet to get opened up past crack off idle

This is on 44mm.   But they should require more jet..

Oh.  And most are at. 1.5 turns on powerjet.  You are running a powerjet right?

So the bigger bore should need more jet?  I wasnt sure seeing as to how the velocity changes with the bore sizes.
yes I have a power jet this ones not adjustable like my 44s it uses mikunie pilet jets and I am all the way up to a 85.
I started at the recomended 2.039  and have had to run it in 2 1/2 full turns and am still lean on the low end.

Generally yes.  It's a velocity thing.  Smaller carb. More velocity to suck on jets harder..  (opposite of fat chicks)

Going from 5-2 to 7-2 and changing your power jet won't help your bottom end

7-2 and 5-2 are same bottom end.  Just richer mid to top

Need to change second number

Ie.  5-1 is leaner bottom than 5-2

5-3 is richer bottom than 5-2

All 3 are identical top end and high mid

I think so.
The same size needle will flow more fuel (run richer)  in a smaller carb due to the higher velocity?? is this right?
I am thinking I might need a 6-3 I might be ok with the 5-2 but will be on the far side of its adjustability .I will hopfully have time to play with it this weekand.
It sure is a pain to make adjustments to. i have 3 4 wheelers that have lectrons on them and i am able to just loosen the clamps and turn the carbs to removethe top but with my bike i have to remove the seat and tank.
This bike always ran real good with the Pwk but the Lectron already feels so much crisper and more responsive.

so are the Lectron carbs more for dune or desert riding where you're running more wide open for longer periods of time than on a KX 500 ridden in the woods?  Whats the advantage of the Lectron units over the stock carbs?  Thanks.
