guy said it was an 89 but the 10#was a g so that means an 87 but for the engine i cant find any matches my engine number is kx500be001048 can one of you guys enliten me on the year

Oh my....On page 32 of my clymerM447-2 There is an engine number list.
It is Showing 1985 KX500 B1 KX500BE000001- 001800
So I'm Seeing your bike engine is #1048 of 1800 for 1985.

thats definitely an 85 motor, non powervalve type, but don't let that put you off,have heard many folks say the b1 was a quick bike....K.

that sucks no power valve im so so spoiled on a power valve after ridin the 500 zilla for 6 years but i think i heard it on hear that the head desighn and the flat top piston made good power. once i get it runnin will it have much of a power band to it? how will it act? never had a non power valve engine all my toys had power valves

search for the ''whats the most power you've seen from a k5'' thread, second page.the guy is describing a modded 85,(the bits about bigger bearings refers to his mates ex Thorpe engine) that with some love and porting apparently went rather well.Enjoy!K.
