The name is Spencer Guinn,22 years old from Joplin, Missouri. I race hare scrambles and a little bit of motocross with my '91 Kawasaki KX500. Just a typical hare scrambles KX500. Hand guards, flywheel weight, converted 18" back wheel, engine/brake guards, etc. Yes, I know...Someone's going to blurt out "Great, some young kid on a 500, thinking he's Charles Bronson, revving and two stepping at people, while doing doughtnuts and wheelies in the riding area parking lot."
I'm not one of those...I've been racing since the age of four and it's something that won't ever leave me. Though, I mostly own vintage Yamahas, Triumphs, and Suzukis, I do own a few Kawasakis. The '91 KX500, a '87 KX125, and a Champion framed '81 KX250. And yes, I race flat track in the VDTRA.
I'm not here to blab on about my dyno results, show pictures of me next to my brand new truck with the Kawi in the back with a pair of $100 sunglasses on, or brag about beating a DRZ125L. I'm just here to get some assistance, get some suggestions and maybe even throw in a few cents myself. Hopefully this site has some great people on here. I've heard a lot of good things about this site.

Hi & Welcome. Joplin is near and dear to some of us on this website and if you listen real close and read between the lines you might be able to figure out why. I'm even surprised you know who Cahrles Bronson is/was....... I remain impressed........

Hello Spencer-VDTRA.
Welcome to KX Riders.
I can assure you that there is an abundance of good guys here as well as all the technical information you can digest :-o
Enjoy!
-
one of the reason why we dont have the problem that others site have is because most of the young kids dont have a k5. great site and great guys.
-
Welcome - some great folks here and lot of info to be had.
You have yours set up about like mine - I used to race Hare and Hound though, so I have the big tank.

Geez, and not post for harassment of the newbie! Thanks! Hahaha!
Here's a few pics of my KX500, before I added the Barkbuster handguards and the 18" inch rear wheel.

Just a typical KX500, though, it may seem "clean", it's had a hard life. And yesterday, it even decide to go full throttle without me pulling the trigger, almost winding me up in the nearby trees. Maybe it's telling me to take it Stewart. Hahaha!
Speaking of Stewart Rouse, I got to meet him yesterday and got to ride one of his KX500's. Man, that thing was crisp. Really awesome guy, and he was some real help out there. But I do plan on taking it to him.

nice bike man!!! BTW who is Stewart Rouse??

Welcome, Let us know what you find on that revving problem, Scary.... Don't ride it till you get it fixed.

Welcome to the forum Spencer,
As stated, Great Guys here willing to help out however they can. Looks like your bike is a 1992 model & not a 91 as the 92/93 had the Blue Stanchion/Fork tubes & the sticker on the swingarm looks 92 also. Check your VIN on the steering head, we can tell for sure that way & I have been wrong before (just ask my Wife :x) & usually we see it the other way as a owner thinks he has a 2001 model & it's actually a 93.
You said you got to ride one of Stewarts K5s, as many of us are curious as to how well they run, is it a Huge Difference between yours & his? I have heard of others taking a ride in the alley (behind the shop) and almost looping out, or at the Chat piles the motor just keeps pulling no matter how steep.
On your revving issue make sure you have the clip in the cable where it goes into the Carb Top. :-D

They're about the most crisp running engines I've ever rode. The power was explosive, but not violent. Pulls soooooooo clean off the bottom end. How ever he did his engine, is the way I want it to run!
The throttle assembly is fine, but I'm really starting to think it may be the base gasket.

I forgot to add, show some pics of the Champion 250, I grew up racing FT & had an Astro & then a StarRacer with the first RM250 motor & it was an awesome bike on the bigger tracks, just not quite as good on the short tracks. Found a program from one of the Amateur Nationals that I ran back in the day, I was racing against Parker, Carr, Kocinski, Chandler & many more big names, now I know why they & their bikes were so fast! :|

Hey Spence,
Welcome to the Forum,
I think you would be hard pressed to find a better bunch of Old School Hooligans to hang out with for a few minutes a day surfing the web.

Wow... another Joplin Kx500 resident.... I think I know more people in Joplin than my own home town by this point...
How big is that place?
Joplin has a little over 45,000 people, not including the surrounding cities. Webb City, Duequnse, Dueneweg, Carl Junction, etc. Probably a little over 65,000.
But as for KX500 owners in Joplin, I only know Stewart Rouse, Joey Purvis and three other guys who own KX500's who ride with the two about mentioned names.
All of my other friends think I'm crazy for riding a KX500...
