Title: 250 plastics on a 500.
Post by: tunster on December 16, 2009, 08:01:43 AM
Here in the UK afew years back ex Honda racer Neil Prince converted a subframe and fitted [i think]y2000 side panels from a cr250 to his cr500.Has anyone tried to do the same with a kx5? Im interested as im considering having a go with my 1988 kx5.Anyone got any advise?just fancy doing something different.I know someone who could make an alloy tank for me and am wondering if i can put maybe kxf rads and shrouds etc on and maybe a newer subframe or convert my standard one to accept modern sidepanels. What do you guys think?Make a good alternative to a kx500af.

Kxriders member Neilios did it with '99-'02 250 plastics. Heavy subframe mods were required as well as a custom tank. It came out really nice and does make a good alternative to an AF... Check out this link and scoll about half way down the page..... http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,3277.0.html

I remember those GAS Honda's. They had 2000 cr250 plastic and alu tank, looked verry good!!

Search for Jadoul on this site, you will find many posts about it.
http://www.jadoulmotosport.com/ (http://www.jadoulmotosport.com/) This is there site, not much to see on.
It was a nice kit to make you "old" K5 look newer. Only probleme that the tank can't wisstand sand.

The first pic is from a DC Concept K5. They made it for Destry, only he was not alouwed by Kawasaki to ride it.
Had a full kx250 body work and subframe, costem tank and pipe. Don't know what hapent to them.

Second pic is of a Jadoul kit.

Dutchie,
I remember seeing that DC Concepts bike in a mag one time.  If I recall correctly, that was Dave Chase from Pro Circuit.  Not too sure what ever happened there either.  But I bet that pipe was bitchin' as I'm sure it wasnt some off the shelf, wide production run.

I have that article of Dave Chase. I will see if I can find it at my parants house and scan it.
It was a good review and made the bike like a 250 on steriods and a little bigger tank!!
Thanks to Dirt Bike Magazine I started searching for body or frame changes of a Kx500. And "ONLY" TEN years later I"ve made it real with my AF. And I REALLY want that pipe!!!! What would be better than a FULL costum PC PIPE???

Here is mine
250 front fender rad shrouds and rear fender
500 number plates

given it doesn't do anythig about the number plates or seat. It does change it a bit

it is a zip-Ty tank. And I believe all 2000 kx250 plastics

Here is mine. KX-f front fender, custom number plate (I also run a latemodel KX front number plate), Zip-ty tank with KX 250 shrouds, Low boy pipe, KX 500 side number plates, and a KX 500 rear fender. If you ask me, the 250 rear fender looks ass ugly on the 500.

I dunno, I think it gives a unique look. Keeps people guessing. It is even more fun to tell them it is a 250..... wanna race! Poor suckers!!!
