Title: Vin # ???'s
Post by: bob larry on October 08, 2009, 08:01:44 AM
Hey All!
Cool site.  Read lots of good stuff already!

I just picked up a 1994 KX500 after my 2006 KX250f blew the rod $$$

My question is buddy says it is a 94 but the vin ends with 89 making me think it is an 89 with 94 forks on it.....

Any help would be great as I need to order some parts for it.......................................

I can give you the VIN # if that would help?

10th digit in your vin is the year of the bike

So the 10th Digit is a N  so 14

I guess this makes it a 1994?

89's #'s are 008501-on

92's #'s are 13001-on

94 would start JKAKX....(94-02)
instead of KX500BE...like they did 85-93

Where can i find the engine ID list backdating to around 85,  i would really like to 100% positively ID the motor in my quad and the non-kips model i have on the floor next to it.

how hard will it b to stuff the engine in a 250 as the frame as been snapped and welded where the seat meets the tank, is tht a common fault?

its not that bad stuffing the motor in a 250 chassis. i'm working on one right now.
it would be a lot cheaper and easier to get another k5 frame. i have not heard of them breaking there.

doing the 250 chassis has fab work- motor mounts, head stay and pipe, cutting swing arm and spacers, and rad fitting.

Hi Guys.
I have a whole bunch of engine ID's as well as parts ID's here:
http://oem-cycle.com/KAWASAKIKX500BIKEID.aspx (http://oem-cycle.com/KAWASAKIKX500BIKEID.aspx)
I add new stuff almost every week.
As always, if you have additional info that you would like to share, I would be happy to post that as well.
Thanks!
